Eremostachys eriolarynx Pazij et Vved.
Status
1. Very rare narrow endemic of the Kyzyl Kum.
Brief description. Perennial plant 20-30 cm high with turnip-shaped
root. Stem densely pubescent with long thickened simple hairs.
Radical leaves broadly ovate, toothed-crenate, pubescent with
simple hairs, short-petioled; stem leaves similar to radical ones,
but smaller. Flowers in false whorls in floral leaf axils. Calyx
20-25 mm long, funnel-shaped, with very dilated limb, pubescent
with simple hairs with admixture of solitary, glandular. Corolla
28-31 mm long, white, with yellow lower lip. Corolla tube glabrous
outside, with hairy ring inside. Flowering in May, fruiting in
June.
Distribution. The Kyzyl Kum (Bukhara region). Outside Uzbekistan:
Kazakhstan.
Habitat. Grey-brown soils of plains.
Number. For the first time was collected in May 5, 1871 in the
Karak Steppe (Chimkent region). For the last time was collected
in 1959 in Gizhduvan district in the environs of the Yangi-Kudduk
water-well (Bukhara region). Subsequent repeated searches were
unsuccessful.

Reasons of number and area change. Overgrazing.
Cultivation. No information.
Measures of protection. Included in the Red Data Book. It is necessary
to continue search of this species.
