161. Brandt’s Hedgehog
Near
Threatened 3(NT), mosaic-distributed subspecies. It is reported
from Ustyurt Plateau and the foothills of western Pamir-Alay mountains.
It inhabits clay deserts, foothills and oases. The numbers were
always low. At present, several thousand individuals are counted;
in some places it decreases in number. Threats: human development
of virgin lands in desert zone, especially plouging and irrigation.
