112. Ursini's Viper

Vulnerable, declining 2 (VU:D), subspecies with a patchy distribution. It is reported from the spurs of western Tien-Shan (in the valley of the Chirchik and Syrdarya rivers). It inhabits flood-lands and banks of lakes; less frequently, dry mountain steppes and foothills. In 1970s, 10-12 specimens were recorded in local populations; at present, the number has decreased sharply. Limiting factors: agricultural development of virgin lands, human-inflicted disturbance. Included in the IUCN Red List [EN].
